Drugs hauls in the final months of 2007



police arrested 13 people in the culmination of an operation which began in Torremolinos, Málaga province, some months ago. Officers discovered a cocaine laboratory set up in Madrid in this second phase, and arrested suspects from the Dominican Republic, Nigeria, Venezuela, Colombia and Spain. They seized 10 kilos of cocaine, together with another 100 kilos of substances which would have been used to cut the drug. Organised Crime and Drugs Squad, and seized 2.7 kilos of cannabis with a street value of 15 million €. The drugs were brought in through the coasts of Alicante and Almería, and stored in premises in Villena, Alicante, the Valencia town of Alberic, and in a warehouse on an Alicante industrial estate, before being sold on in Spain, France and Holland. Dutch-registered vehicle was intercepted after loading up with 350 kilos of cannabis at the Alicante warehouse, and its two drivers, both from Holland, were taken into custody. A further 1.7 tons of cannabis were found stored in the warehouse, and other smaller amounts in three other vehicles intercepted in Alberic and Villena, together with more than half a ton found in a house in Alberic. It’s understood the remaining suspects are 16 Moroccan nationals and one from Lithuania.seized 33 kilos of heroin, in a two-phase operation carried out by National Police from Madrid, Murcia and Alicante, where 10 suspected members of an international network were taken into custody. Four suspects are said to be from Eastern Europe, with another six from Spain.
The Interior Ministry says the end product was mainly distributed in the Madrid Region, Barcelona, Santander
